Description
Type II cement is a modified form of Portland cement. A smaller amount of clay is used in the production of Type 2 cement. For this reason, this type of cement has greater resistance to sulfate formation than type one cement. The reduction of clay in Type 2 cement causes a decrease in the volume of aluminum oxide in Type 2 cement. This is because Type 2 cement will react less in the vicinity of sulfate-containing materials. This will prevent the production of a material called ettringite. Therefore, the amount of water absorption in concrete or cement is reduced and the possibility of cracking is minimized. One of the distinctive features of Type 2 cement is the production of less heat during sealing. This property is the most important reason for using type II cement in high-volume concreting. In cases such as solid cement components (electrical beams, cement blocks), it is the best option. Type 2 cement is most widely used and effective in areas with hot and dry climates.
